Awesome Thankful Mini Album!

Hello!
Today I wanted to show you this amazing album that was made by Lisa from our Design Team. She is super talented and we knew that you would love this one!

The thing that I loved the most about this little album is that it was made with an old Cricut Cartridge box! How ingenious is that! Im sure all of you who have a Cricut have oodles of these little guys just sitting around! Upcycling items is becoming more and more popular and this is a easy and beautiful way to use them. She used some pattern paper and embellisments to make the outsides- and insides all pretty-fied (yes I just made up that word) :)

Lisa then added papers with photos of her loved ones on the front and what they are thankful for on the back. This is such a wonderful idea to have at your thanksgiving celebrations. Imagine how fun it will be in the years to come to look back on these albums and look at what we were thankful for back in good ol' 2011!

Come in today and look at this beautiful album in person! It is a great idea that I know I will be adding to my Thanksgiving traditions!

Hello Heartland Friends!

Can you believe Turkey Day is less that a week away? I love this time of year - I get to reflect on the things that I am thankful for and I get to spend time with family and dear friends! So if you are feeling particularly crafty - we've got some cute table favor ideas for you to amaze and impress your families with :) But be careful- I've learned from experience- once you start doing these - you WILL be expected to do them every year! But that's ok! These projects are fun for the whole family to create together! So lets get crafty!

First off we have for you this cute Pumpkin Pie favor made with some of my all time favorite Double Dot cardstock. This is simply a cake slice box that I cut out on my Silhouette (but you can also use a template like this one) And all that I did was simply flip the cake box upside down so that the "frosting" part of the became my crust. I then measured the back end of the box and then cut an additional rectangle shaped piece for the crust back. I used a scalloped edge punch on the edges and then glued it to the back of the orange paper. For fun I added a scented candle inside and not only do you get to keep the candle as a favor - your pumpkin pie box will smell ALMOST as good as the real thing too :) Add a tag with a sweet sentiment and you are done!

Pie Template

Pattern Papers: Bo Bunny Dot papers in Decaf and Burnt Orange

Scallop edge border punch

Authentique Classic type letter stickers in orange

Button and twine

Next up we have a darling Easel Box . These were so cute and a fun way to make a name tag for the place setting - I always like sitting by my Grandma Duersch! She always let me eat my dessert first :) So this box was done in her honor :)

Easel Box

Supplies used:

Brown cardstock cut to 4x4

Authentique “Together” paper cut to 7 ½ x 3

Bo Bunny Coffee Dot paper cut to 2 ½ x 5

Authentique “Grow” paper cut to 1 inch circle

Bo Bunny Frost Dot paper

Bo Bunny Rhinestones

Scor-Pal or other scoring tool

Using scoring tool, score 4x4 brown cardstock at 1 inch on all sides. Snip edges to form box shape and adhere sides. This is your drawer bottom for the box.

Score 7 ½ x 3 inch paper on the 7 ½ inch side at 3, 3 ½, 6 ½ and 7 inches. Fold at score lines and make in to the drawer cover. Adhere edge.

Take 2 ½ x 5 inch brown dot paper and score at 1 ½ and 3 inches. Fold into a “Z” shape and adhere to top of card . Cut out name plate.

Cut 1 inch circle out of “Grow” paper. Cut into a spiral shape. Roll edge and make into flower shape. Add Rhinestone to center. Glue shape to frame.

Hand cut small leaf shapes from Frost dot cardstock. Add behind flower shape. To make the little brown spiral paper accents, trim a tiny, thin piece of cardstock. Take a piercing tool or a needle, and twist the paper strip into the spiral shape. Trim off any excess and add behind flower shape.

This is always one of my favorite boxes to make - maybe because it looks kind of like a french fry box :) This one is filled with some yummy nuts and craisins for a delicous little treat before dinner :)

Authentique “Harmony” pattern paper cut to 2 ½ x 2 inches

Hey all!

Can you believe that Turkey Day is just a short 2 weeks away? That just seems so wrong to me - especially since I still have about 16 pounds of Halloween Candy left - but I thought these cute little Thanksgiving printables would get me in the festive mood :) And because we are so thankful to have you all as our wonderful customers - we wanted to give them to you as well!

These files are free to download and they are 5x7 inches in size but they can be resized to fit smaller or larger frames. We added a die cut leaf and button tied with some pretty cranberry twine on the subway art. We added 2 punched flowers , a button and some brown and white bakers twine, layered on top of a pretty brown and white damask patterned bow on the Gobble On picture. All of these beautiful embellishments can be found at Heartland.

Day 13 of the 13 Days of Halloween

Well this is it! The final day of our 13 Days of Halloween. If you have been following us along the way - thank you! We truly have so many wonderful inspiring items on display at Heartland, it was hard to just pick 13! So thanks for stopping by our blog! We hope to have many more ideas for you to see and get inspiration from. The holidays are just around the corner and we are super excited to share all of those ideas with you as well!

Todays idea is one more card. Witches have sure come a long way in the past few years. I remember when I was younger, witches were all ugly with green faces and stringy black hair. I've noticed that witches have all sorts of different looks now. I remember my little one wanting to be a "pretty witch" for Halloween. She had a beautiful purple dress, purple shoes and this gorgeous purple velvet and black tulle hat. It was so fun! So in the spirit of all the "pretty witch" lovers out there - here is a pretty handmade card with a beautiful witch hat. You can also use this hat as an accent on a scrapbook layout as well.

Here is the link for the pattern or you can pick one up at Heartland.

Supplies:

Black cardstock, cream Dotted Swiss cardstock, Authentique papers in Diamond Harlequin, Harlequin Patches, and Black Dot. Black Tulle, Black Bazzill Button, black rhinestones, black floral picks from Hobby Lobby, Black gauze ribbon.

Directions:

Cut black cardstock card base to 7 x 10. Cut orange and black pattern paper to 4 ¾ x 6 ¾. Cut cream dotted Swiss cardstock to 3 ¾ x 6. Attach all papers to black cardstock base. Cut out witch hat from pattern. Make accordion flower using Diamond Harlequin paper. Attach black floral pics and tulle to back of flower. Add black button to center. Add black rhinestones to corners of cream cardstock. Hand draw wavy black lines around edge of cream cardstock. . Add sentiment.

Day 12 of 13 Days of Halloween

Good Morning and welcome to Day 12 of our 13 Days of Halloween projects here at Heartland! We've been having so much fun showing you what our designers have to offer for all sorts of Halloween ideas!

Today's project is another one of my favorites! This project was made by Becky from our Design Team. She has made the funnest projects using Echo Park's Apothecary line. It is one of our most popular lines of paper at Heartland so get yours before it is gone!

She made this cute paper cone which I also learned can be called a "tussy mussy." Isn't that a fun word? I am going to call all paper cones that from now on. :) This would be so fun to add some tissue paper and then fill with lots of yummy halloween candy or treats. (Hey- tis the season right - I just love all the different types of candy out there right now!) These would be great for your kids to take to school for a fun halloween treat to give to friends and they are easy enough that they can help you make and decorate them.

Supplies:

Black Velvet Ribbon

Echo Park Apothecary paper and sitckers

Hot Glue

Instructions:

Trace a cone shape on your pattern paper.

Adhere edges together, use hot glue for extra strong hold.

Hot glue ribbon to inside of cone, tie a bow.

Hot glue ribbon to edge of cone, lightly rumpling to create dimension.

Hot glue strip of pattern paper around cone.

Accordion pleat pattern paper to make rosette shape,adhere sticker shape to center.

Adhere rosette to strip of pattern paper.

Good Morning Everyone and welcome to Day 11. We hope you had a wonderful weekend filled with fun! I know we did around my house! Every year we have a "Ghouls" Weekend with all the girls in my family. We went to see Odessey Dance's production of Thriller and then did Halloween crafts all weekend! It was a ball! I was able to share some of the ideas that we have been featuring on our blog for inspiration. We hope that you will find the same inspiration!

Today's project is a darling card set! We love making cards here at Heartland! Remember Lisa's darling 2 page layout using Fancy Pants line of Halloween Papers? She also made 3 adorable cards using the same line of papers and embellishments! A good tip that I like to share is if you have made a layout or a paper craft project - whip up a couple of cards using your leftover scraps. And since all of your supplies are out anyways it means you don't have to drag out everything all over again. Make a couple of cards and file them away and then pull them out when you need them!

Supplies:

Day 10 of the 13 Days of Halloween

Welcome to Day 10 of our 13 Days of Halloween. Today we have another shaped card for you to see. I love the girly feel of these boots! So fun for a girlfriend greeting or even a fun party invite! And the saying is my personal favorite! :)

Witch Shoe Card by Tya Smith

Supplies:

Black Cardstock, Green Cardstock, Cream Cardstock, Authentique Papers in Diamond Harlequin, Black Dot and Cream Solid. Black Tulle, Black Twine. Black Bazzil Buttons. Rhinestones.

Directions:

Cut 2 shoes from pattern. Attach at the tops of the cards and fold to make card shape. Glue details to front of card. Lace black twine through shoe lace portion of card. Add Sentiment to green cardstock tag. Add rhinestones. Tie black twine to button and attach to front of card.

Day 9 of the 13 Days of Halloween

Wow! We've reached Day 9 here of our 13 Days of Halloween projects and today's project is of course stunning as always! We have such an amazing group of designers! Every month is like Christmas around here because I get so excited to see what they are going to create!

Today we have a fabulous banner made by Becky Olsen. You can see all of Becky's projects hanging up right at the front desk at Heartland. She made a wonderful ensemble of Halloween projects using Echo Park's Apothecary line. This time we are featuring her "Spooky" banner.

So cute right? I am going to make one of these little beauties for sure to hang on my mantle! Come by today and pick up the supplies to make your very own!

Supplies:
Black Tulle netting
Black Bazzill cardstock
Orange Stickles
Echo Park Apothecary Pattern papers in Black Magic, Skull and Bones and Alchemy Press
Letters cut on Cricut
Hot Glue
Dry Adhesive Runner

Instructions:
1- Cut banner pieces from black cardstock.
2- Cut banner insert from pattern papers
3-Apply Stickles or other glitter around edge of pattern paper, set aside to dry.
4-Punch edges of paper strips, score, fold an adhere to make rosettes.
5-Adhere rosettes to banner with hot glue or other strong hold adhesive.
6-Cut and attach letters.
7-Punch holes in the top of the banner and thread tulle through, tie in bows and hang.

Good Morning everyone! It was great to see some of you at our Holiday Open House last night at Heartland! We've got some awesome projects schedueled for the next few months! Stop by the store at check out all the beautiful class samples we have!

Today we have a super cute 2 page layout designed by Lisa. She is so great at using products in a fun and creative way. She is using Fancy Pants October 31st line. This is such a fun line and I love the pop of purple (my favorite color!) that they have included in their line. And just how adorable is that little witch?

Day 7 of 13 Days of Halloween

Hello and welcome to Day 7 of our 13 Days of Halloween blog projects! We hope you are enjoying all the wonderful ideas from our design team and are getting inspired to spook-ify you our homes!

Todays's project is a fun little treat box that uses one of my absolute favorite Halloween lines that has been released this year. Doodlebug Designs Monster Mania collection has been flying off the shelves! It's no wonder either, it is all so darling - classic Doodlebug for sure! I love making fun little treat boxes to give to my family and friends, so when I saw this eyeball pattern paper, I knew exactly what I was going to do with it.
I had bought some of these chocoloate and caramel eyeballs from the dollar store that fit perfectly with theme of the pattern paper.

Here's a little tutorial for you!

Cut Monster Stripe pattern paper to 5 ¾ x 8. Score the paper at 1 inch and 4 ¾ inches on the short side.

Turn and score the paper on the 8 inch side at 3 ¼ and 4 ¾.

Fold all the scored lines and snip the small center score lines just up to the long lines.

Adhere box sides together with Scor-tape or any other strong adhesive.

Cut black cardstock at 2 x12 inches. Score this paper at 5 ¼ and 6 ¾ .

Attach this band to the box. Glue top ¼ inch of top the black band.

Make tag out of orange cardstock. Tag is 2 ¾ x 3 ½ inches. Add stickers and sentiment.

Punch hole in top of black cardstock and tag. Tie black ribbon to top of box.

Fill with black crinkle paper and candy.

Day 6 of 13 Days of Halloween

Hello all! We hope you had a wonderful weekend! This little tease of chilly weather we got here in Utah sure got me into the Halloween spirit!

Today we bring you another shaped card. Have you noticed the abundance of pumpkins popping up? Where I live we are surrounded by miles and miles of farms with pumpkins just waiting to be picked up and made in to jack-o-lanterns! We have already started planning out ours around our house!

Anyway- don't you wish all spiders could be that cute? That little guy is a die cut from Bazzill that I just added some little black gems to for eyes and then some amazing flexible twine that we have at Heartland.

Pumpkin Card by Tya Smith

Supplies:

Orange cardstock, Echo Park Dots and Stripes paper in Mango Small Dots and Leaf Large Dot, Black and White Gingham Ribbon, Black Twine, Black Rhinestones, Tag done on Silhouette Machine. Bazzill Basics Creepy Crawlies paper shapes.

Directions:

Using pattern, cut pumpkin shaped card out of orange cardstock Cut pattern paper shapes from paper pattern as well. Layer pattern papers on front of card. Cut tag shape out of Silhouette Machine. Tie black and white gingham bow to stem. Tie tag to stem with black twine. Add paper spider to black twine and attach to stem. Add rhinestones and smile to spider shape. Ink edges if desired.

Day 5 of the 13 Days of Halloween

Welcome to Day 5! Todays post is one of my favorites that we have up in the store! It's one of those projects that totally surprised me!

Kelly from our Desgin Team left this cute little box back on my desk when she turned in her projects. Imagine my surprise when I opened up the box and found THIS!!!!!

AAAAH - it's a finger!! No wait - it's just a fake finger! WHEW!!! :)

Isn't this such a fun idea for an invitation? I know that my son or probably any boy for that matter would love to get this! Such a fun idea Kelly!

Here are the instructions for you:

Materials:

Pattern paper: Haunted Hallows “Spiderweb” by Teresa Collins

Font: Blackadder ITC

Black cardstock box, cut by the Silhouette machine

Wilton pretzel mold and melting wafers

Black netting, approx. 18”

Black narrow ribbon

1. Using a Wilton pretzel mold for Halloween fingers, follow instructions for melting the candy wafers. Use mostly white with a little orange for flesh color, and chocolate for the fingernail if desired. Cut your pretzel short enough so the entire length of finished pretzel will be under 4”. (Put the cut end into the candy side so the nice end is showing.) Let set.

2. Cut a basic shallow box from black cardstock with Silhouette, or use another shallow box with a diagonal opening of about 4”.

3. Cut “Spiderweb” paper to fit outside edges, top, and inside flap (6 total pieces), leaving approx. 1/8” border for box to show. Ink edges with black inkpad. Glue to box sides, top, and inside flap.

4. Print sentiment on white paper, sized to let pattern paper border show. Ink edges with black and glue to inside flap.

5. Fill box with about 12” of black netting or other filler material. Tie ribbon to candy finger and place inside of box on top of netting.

6. Use remaining 6” of netting to tie in knot and glue to outside of top lid.

Day 4 of the 13 Days of Halloween

Good Morning! Welcome to Day 4 of our 13 Days of Halloween projects at Heartland Paper! Today we are featuring 4 darling invitations made by Rudi of our Design Team. We have so many great products in the store that make putting together invitations super fast and easy. Rudi made these 4 invitations using the Echo Park Apothecary Line and she only had to use a few sheet of paper and a page of stickers to make these! So if you are thinking of having a Halloween party - get creative and make your own invitations like these!

Supplies:

Echo Park Apothecary Papers in Haunted Forest, Skull and Bones, Alchemy Press, Striped Toad, Apothecary Cards, and Apothecary Element Stickers. Purple cardstock, black cardstock, orange cardstock, Black Envelope, and ribbon.

Day 3 of 13 Days of Halloween

Welcome to Day 3! Today we have another card for you, but this one is a shaped card! Shaped cards are all the rage now a days- it adds just that little bit of extra fun when sending a shaped card. This would be a fun card to attach to a bag of candy corns or any other fun treat that you have. I found this fun treat on one of my favorite blog sites craftster.org. You and the your kiddos could easily whip this up for a friend and give it to them with the card for a fun Halloween treat!

Here is the card for you and a pattern for you to use as well to make your own!

Candy Corn Card by Tya Smith

Supplies:

White cardstock, kraft cardstock, Bo Bunny Pattern papers in Chiffon Dot, Orange Citrus Stripe, and Buttercup Stripe. White Ribbon, Yellow Ric-Rac, Orange Bakers Twine, Black button.

Directions:

Cut candy corn card base using pattern on white cardstock. Trace card front pieces on the pattern paper. Glue as show with white on top, orange in the middle and yellow on the bottom. Attach white ribbon and ric-rac around card front. Tie tag sentiment to the white ribbon with the yellow ric-rac. Add orange bakers twine and button to tag. Ink edges if desired.

13 Days of Halloween - Day 2!

Hello! It's day 2 of our 13 Days of Halloween projects and today we have a darling card made by Kelly of our Design Team. If only all spiders were that cute right?

Here are the instructions for you:

Materials:
Pattern paper: Haunted Hallows “Frames” and “Spiderweb” by Teresa Collins
Orange cardstock for base
Black cardstock for spiderweb, cut with the Silhouette machine
Black netting
Black pipe cleaner
Googly eyes
Black inkpad for inking paper edges
Adhesive: Aleene’s Tacky Glue, plus paper adhesive

1. Cut orange cardstock to 8.5” x 5.5”, then fold in half for card base.
2. Cut polka-dot side of “Frames” paper to 3.75” x 5”. Ink the edges with black inkpad.
3. Cut spider web with Silhouette machine from black cardstock.
4. Using approx. 5” square of black netting, glue it to the back of the spiderweb (liquid glue works best here). Once dry, trim the extra netting away.
5. Cut out desired word strips from back of “Spiderweb” paper. Ink the edges with black inkpad.
6. Using a black pipe cleaner, cut four 2” pieces for the legs. Twist them together in the center and bend the end for legs. Take the remaining piece of pipe cleaner and twist it into a tight spiral for the spider’s body. Glue the body to the legs and the googly eyes to the body.
7. Adhere the polka-dot paper to the center of the card front. Glue the spiderweb to the card front on the left side. Adhere the word strips along the right edge of card front. Glue the spider to the web.

Thirteen Days of Halloween!

Whoooo's ready for Halloween???? I know I am! The Design Divas here at Heartland have "scared" up some "hauntingly" fun Halloween projects for you to see! We will be posting a new idea up on the blog for the next 13 days. Come on into the store to see all the ideas that we have up and then take some supplies home with you so you can "spooky" up your own home.

Today's project comes to us from Becky Olsen. She made this adorable wreath using Echo Park's new "Apothocary" halloween line. The colors and patterns in these papers are to die for!

Rosette Wreath:

Re-purposed cardboard box

Echo Park patterned paper and stickers

Black tulle netting

Hot glue

1) Trace around two different sized plates on re-purposed cardboard. (chipboard will work too) Cut out, this is your wreath base.

2) Cut paper strips the width of the wreath from Echo Park patterned paper, score, adhere end to end and hot glue to wreath base.

3) Cut paper strips from Echo Park patterned paper, score and fold into rosettes, hot glue to wreath.

4) Tie bow from black tulle, adhere to rosette.
5) Add banner and title stickers to wreath.

5) Loop black tulle around wreath and tie in a bow to hang from.

Hey all-

If you haven't had a chance to buzz on by Heartland Paper lately - we've added a couple of new projects from our Design Divas. So fun and inspiring!

First off - Lisa from our design team is a "WIZ" when in comes to designing this adorable book using the new Magic of Oz line from Graphic 45. She is so good at adding lots of fun textures to her projects!

Lisa also make this awesome explosion box using Basic Greys new Oxford line. This line is perfect for all of your school photos and memories and again look at all the yummy details and layers she added!

Design Diva Rudi gave us this cute folded paper box.This would be so fun to give to that special teacher with a little treat in it.

September in Utah means State Fair time! And we all know the only reason to go to the fair is to get all the yummy Fair Food. Ever tried a deep fried Snickers bar? Soo bad for you yet sooo good! :) Becky showcase her love of all things fair with this cute as can be layout and card.

Becky also designed these beautiful cards. Black and white is so simple - yet so classic. These could be used for so many different occasions.

Well its official - it's September and cooler temps are headed our way! We hope that you have had a wonderful summer and took tons of memorable pictures just waiting to be scrapped! Our fabulous design team has put together some wonderful projects that will hopefully get you motivated to be crafty with all those summery pics!

Check out this darling mini album made by Valerie- don't you just adore all the details? And those fishies - perfect for all those beachy or fishing photos.

Next from Kelly we have a darling layout that has the perfect summertime title. This darling "Sunshine layout" is so fun and don't you just love the little photos peeking out of the window. Too cute!

Kelly also gave us this amazing dutch oven cookbook! What a great gift for your favorite dutch oven chef - and the recipes look amazing! It makes me want to go camping!

Melinda made this darling family reunion album. It is made from paper lunch sacks and I loved all the little spots for journaling! I know that I sure have a ton of photos with my family in them from this summer.

Melinda also made these bright, sunshiney cards that would brighten anyones day!

We went to alot of weddings this summer. Tis the season right? :) Brooke made this stunning bridal frame to focus on the beautiful brides in our lives (or grooms ) :)

Brooke also designed these beautiful paper laterns. These would be adorable for a bbq or outdoor party for some added illumination. These patterns can be found in the store. I loved the intricate cutouts!

And lastly - Rudi desgined these classically beautiful wedding mini albums made for guest signature books and to add photos of that special day for the lucky couple.

Come into the store today and check out these awesome projects in person. All of the supplies used to make these are include on the back of each product and the helpful gals at Heartland are always available to ask if you are wondering how these projects are put together! August 10, 2011. Put that date on your calendar. Heartland Paper will be resuming classes and you won’t want to miss it! Until then, workshops and kits are in store to fill the creative appetite.

If you have not been into Heartland for a bit, you need to stop by and see all the new and exciting papers, kits and consignment items that Donna has been bringing in. The card and page workshops have quite the following the younger generation of scappers are having a blast in Kids Camp.

My name is Pat Lingwall and Donna has brought me on to the Heartland team to be Class Coordinator. Sandy Hill is Kit Kaptain and Tya Smith is the Design Team Diva. All in all, we are planning some exciting things for the second half of 2011.

We would love your feedback. Please let us know what class and projects you would like to see and we will get right on it! (Leave your suggestions as a comment on the blog.) Also, spread the word about the store and the blog.
